Apparatus finals day 1

First day of apparatus finals in Antwerp today. Five different apparatus, 41 exercises to bring. What an excitement!

Men’s floor exercise

Olympic champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel qualified in first place for this final, and gave up his all-around spot to focus on this event. And with success. Gold it is for Artem! 2022 silver medallist Daiki Hashimoto of Japan made a little mistake and misses podium. 2022 finalist Milan Karimi (KAZ) focused and did a very good job, bronze it is. The Japanese Kazuki Minami (JPN) was very strong in qualification and also in this final he was outstanding!

Women’s vault

Topping the qualification results was Simone Biles (USA) and with her incredible pedigree on this event, she clearly was the favourite to win back the title she last claimed in 2019. Unfortunately she fell in her landing of the first routine (The new Biles II). Rebeca Andrade (BRA) performed two very strong routines and got the highest scores! Her first gold medal at this world championships is a fact! They were joined by 2022 world vault bronze medallist, Coline Devillard of France who scored 13.183 points. 2020 Olympic vault bronze medallist Yeo Seojeong (KOR) was good for bronze.

Men’s pommel horse

Twice Olympic champion Max Whitlock (GBR) made a mistake in his routine and fell. 2022 world champion Rhys McClenaghan (IRL), defended his tittle successfully and claimed the gold medal. Bronze medallist Ahmad Abu Al Soud of 2022 also performed strongly and took bronze. The youngster Khoi Young (USA) already claimed bronze with his team and now adds the silver one. A beautiful podium with three different continents.

Women’s uneven bars

The People’s Republic of China, USA and Netherlands all had two gymnasts in this final. Qualified in first place is Qiu Qiyuan (CHN) got the highest score and won the gold medal. 2022 world silver medallist Shilese Jones (USA) who qualified in second place scored 14.766, bronze. From the Netherlands, both Sanna Veerman and Naomi Visser showed their routine scoring 14.200 and 14.166 respectively. But the story of the day came from Kaylia Nemour of Algeria. She trains in France and had the highest difficulty score from qualifications. An historic medal for Algeria!

Men’s still rings

Olympic ring champion, Liu Yang (CHN) from 2021 performed strongly and nailed his landing. With 15.233 points he claimed the gold medal! Olympic rings champion 2016 Eleftherios Petrounias (GRE) also performed amazing with a twisting doubble back in the end scoring a massive 15.066. Silver for Eleftherios! China was on fire in the still rings final, team mate of Yang Liu, You Hao scored 14.833 clinching the bronze medal!
